The View From Alameda Island
by Robyn Carr
TODAY bestselling author Robyn Carr presents the struggles and difficulties of divorce—as well as the life-changing freedom that can accompany it.
After a conversation with her lawyer in which she agrees, after 24 years of marriage, to serve her husband with divorce papers, Lauren takes a stroll through the gardens at Divine Redeemer parish in Oakland, California. This is her first chance encounter with Beau, a landscape architect, who also enjoys the tranquility of the church gardens and volunteers his time to help with some of the maintenance. Several more coincidental meetings follow in the months ahead, leading the pair to two realizations: they are both going through long overdue and messy divorces, and despite not feeling ready for a new relationship, there is a clear attraction growing between them.
Despite support from her family, her co-workers, and even one of her two adult daughters as the proceedings start to take shape, Lauren realizes that maybe everyone needs a “divorce buddy”— and Beau, dealing with the same challenges and emotions, becomes hers. As the months pass, a friendship founded in the gardens of Divine Redeemer begins to be something more…but Brad and Pamela aren’t yet willing to let their spouses go so easily, even resorting to violence to keep their partners under their thumbs.
With raw, candid emotions front and center, THE VIEW FROM ALAMEDA ISLAND tackles the challenges, heartbreak, and sacrifices of divorce—with a little bit of humor along the way. Robyn Carr’s characters and the bonds they form during their most difficult moments will tug at readers’ heartstrings and leave them cheering for happy endings until the very last page.
I absolutely loved The View From Alameda Island by Robyn Carr! It was such an engaging story, I couldn’t put it down! Ms. Carr delivers an engrossing tale about two characters in toxic marriages. After they file for divorce, Lauren and Beau meet unexpectedly and form a special friendship which in time turns into something more.
I was a bit concerned because I don’t normally read books that deal with infidelity, but since Robyn Carr always writes stories about interesting and unique situations, I was intrigued. In this case, the main characters are already separated from their spouses. The story begins giving the reader an overall background of the lives of the characters before they meet. Then it takes off with a faster pace and I couldn’t put the book down until the end! The View from Alameda Island touched on many realistic issues, especially the toll a divorce process can be and how it affects everyone involved, from kids, to families and even at work.
I highly recommend The View from Alameda Island by Robyn Carr! It’s filled with family drama, suspenseful and heartbreaking moments, but also humor, passion, a quaint, charming town and most importantly a happy ending! This work of fiction can inspire or be life changing for anyone facing similar circumstances. There are many words of wisdom and valuable lessons to learn in this story. It’s always a pleasure reading books by Robyn Carr. I always end her books feeling inspired and with a smile.
