THE GUARDIAN by Kimberly Kincaid
Kimberly Kincaid once again burns up the pages with romance and suspense in The Guardian, book two in The Intelligence Unit series. This story features the intense Detective Matteo Garza, of Remington’s finest, and his sister’s best friend Delia Sutton, a brilliant and quirky mathematician as they try to stay alive while shutting down a major money laundering scheme.
Matteo has learned the hard way, don’t just do the job, be the job; as work and pleasure cannot go hand in hand. It has allowed him to avoid and isolate himself from other people. He has the scowl and grumpy outlook down pat; but if you mess with him or someone he loves, look out, there’s no stopping him. Delia knows she’s different than other people. With an eidetic memory and seeing numbers as color, life is never dull. Making friends and socializing is difficult for her. Her ages-old crush on Matteo, her college roommate’s older brother, hasn’t gotten her anywhere, let alone him noticing her.
When Delia accidently uncovers a money laundering scheme, led by one of Remington’s most cold-blooded criminal, Garza is determine to keep her safe. As these two spend time together, avoiding the bad guys, their attraction grows along with off the charts chemistry neither knew was possible. Focusing on survival, Delia becomes more confident, working to break down the carefully built walls Matteo has built around his heart; despite the magnetism drawing him to her, making him want her more than life itself. Soon it becomes apparent that the danger is too close, making it so no one can be trusted. Matteo will do anything to protect her, being the guardian she needs by her side.
I loved reading this heart-pounding suspense and steamy romance; something Ms. Kincaid is an expert at writing. Her characters were realistic, keeping the story interesting, making me forget the world around me and not letting me go until I turned the last page, wanting more. Ms. Kincaid kept this reader mesmerized with the need to see how Matteo and Delia would find and capture this bad guy before he hurt anyone else. I highly recommend this book to other readers and look forward to the next book in this series.
