THE FOOTMEN’S CLUB SERIES by Valerie Bowman
The Footmen’s Club series by Valerie Bowman lives up to her motto, Racy Regency Romps.
I adored her Playful Brides series, so I knew I had to read this new series with such lovely covers.
In The Footmen’s Club series four men meet in a tavern, three are “in their cups”. They hatch a plan to pose as servants at a house party to make sure women fall in love with them, not just their titles or money. You just know the women they fall for wouldn’t have given a fig about their titles to begin with.
(6/30/2020)- Book One is The Footman and I and this one has the romance as the Earl of Kendall (footman Lucas) and Miss Francis Wharton fall in love with each other’s minds as they discuss political issues that Francis’s mother has forbidden her to do with any eligible man at the house party.
(7/28/2020)- Book Two is Duke Looks Like a Groomsman and this one has the banter between former almost betrothed Duke of Worthington and Lady Julianna Montgomery. At the house party she is now betrothed to another and recognizes a certain groomsman working in the stables. She realizes this is a wonderful opportunity to pay him back for ghosting her all those years ago.
(8/25/2020)- Book Three is The Valet Who Loved Me and this one has the intrigue. Beau, the Marquess of Bellingham was the only one not “in his cups” when this scheme was hatched about posing as servants. His goal as an operative for the Home Office was not to find a wife, but to ferret out a possible spy at this house party. At every turn while playing valet his progress is impeded by a lady’s maid named Miss Marianne Notley, who is acting just a bit shady herself.
Bowman excels at writing about friendships between her characters. A reader can sense the affection and genuine camaraderie between these men.
If you are a subscriber to Valerie Bowman’s newsletter she has offered a free series epilogue which is a short story of all the couples gathered together for Christmastide. She is also writing at least two more books to add to this trilogy.
I would recommend all the books in the delightful Footmen’s Club series.
