Kelly Crockett longs to be renowned for her culinary skills. But achieving her dream feels all but impossible when Fate insists on sabotaging every idea for transforming her award-winning Denver coffee-and-sandwich shop into a Michelin-class restaurant.

Kelly has cultivated a life’s-a-party attitude that’s helped her stand out from her triplet sisters. But dogged cheerfulness doesn’t help when a fire near her restaurant sends the opportunity for a career-building cooking show spotlight up in flames. Devastated, she returns home to vast and beautiful Paradise Ranch. While helping in her sister’s new restaurant, she conceives a bold plan for rescuing her dreams. But Fate isn’t finished throwing obstacles in her path, not the least of which is a gorgeous but troubled man who’s all wrong for her.

Damien Finney believes that after three years as a firefighter, two tours in Afghanistan, and one year in PTSD therapy, he’s ready to leave hell and start the next chapter of his life. After rigorous training, he’s earned a spot on an elite smokejumper crew–but then a failed jump lands him right back on the Devil’s doorstep.

After Afghanistan, Damien found healing at Paradise Ranch in a program that paired veterans with wild mustangs. With his smoke-jumping career in jeopardy, he returns to the ranch and the horses, seeking a miracle cure to save his future. The last thing he needs is a bubbly extrovert-of-a-woman invading his refuge and throwing his plans off course.

Although they fight it, the heat between Kelly and Damien’s opposite personalities builds. But there’s trouble in Paradise: Kelly’s plans cause strife with her sisters. Damien’s past haunts him. And when wildfires threaten the land they both love, each must decide if the heat will forge a new future or tear them apart. Are they brave enough to see that buried beneath the dreams they hoped for is the dream they actually need—one that’s theirs together?

Eileen's Thoughts

I enjoyed reading Heating Up Paradise by Lizbeth Selvig, book five in her Seven Brides for Seven Cowboys series.  It is a wonderful, sweet story that focuses on Kelly Crockett, one of the triplets, and Damien Finney, their friendship, chemistry, and magnetic attraction. These two opposites are definitely attracted to each other.

After a fire temporarily closes their coffee and sandwich shop, Kelly returns home to the immense and gorgeous Paradise Ranch. When her sister Grace loses another cook, Kelly, a trained chef, helps out, finding a renewed love for creating new dishes and thinking about her future dreams of owning a Michelin-level restaurant.

After three years as a firefighter, two tours in Afghanistan, and a year in PTSD therapy, Damien is ready to start the next chapter of his life; a spot on an elite smoke jumper crew. When a jump goes sour, Damien finds himself seeking solace at Paradise Ranch where he previously spent time in a program that paired veterans with wild mustangs. With his smoke-jumping career in danger of ending before it begins, he is hopeful that while he is at the ranch and with the horses he can find a cure to save his future.

Being a quiet introvert, Damien is overwhelmed with Kelly’s bubbly-extroverted personality; needing some quiet time to gather his thoughts. Kelly knows that something happened to make Damien wary but until he is ready to open up to her she will need to trust him. When Damien helps Kelly out in the kitchen, he becomes a practical joker, an amazing sous-chef, and a decent cook from the time he cooked at the fire station.

Kelly finds her plans causing trouble in Paradise with her sisters and Damien’s past haunts him. When wildfires threaten the land they both love, each needs to decide if there is enough heat for them to build a new future or tear them apart. But, first they need to that buried deep down beneath the dreams they hoped for is what they truly need; one that is theirs together.

Ms. Selvig wrote a wonderful and emotional story that is definitely not to be missed. She provided a tale rich with off the charts, sizzling chemistry, magnetism, wonderful dialogue, and charming characters giving Kelly and Damien a chance to discover they were meant to be together and find their path to the future. I highly recommend Heating Up Paradise to other readers.

About Lizbeth Selvig

Award-winning author Lizbeth Selvig writes heartwarming, sexy-sweet small town and contemporary western romance. Her strong, fun and funny characters don’t mind poking at societal norms even while they’re finding their ways home to family and love.

Lizbeth turned to fiction writing after working as a newspaper journalist and magazine editor, and raising an equine veterinarian daughter (handy, since there are usually too many horses in her stories) and a talented musician son (also handy because she’s been known to write about rock stars).

Lizbeth shares life in Minnesota, where her first book series is set, with her best friend (aka her husband, Jan), her two pretty horses, Jedi and Largo, three human grandchildren, and her four-legged grandkids of which there are over twenty, including two alpacas, two small goats, a mammoth-eared donkey, two miniature horses, a pot-bellied pig, and many dogs, cats and regular-sized horses (pics of all appear on her website

In her spare time she loves to hike, quilt, read, and horseback ride. She also loves connecting with readers–so contact her any time!
