GIMME S’MORE by Erin Nicholas
Gimme S’more, another delicious book by Erin Nicholas, book six in her Hot Cakes series, is a “can’t put down” story that includes a few of my favorite things. There are s’mores, chocolate, marshmallows, fire pits, and camping. There’s also a couple, one a bit clueless, maybe because of his ADHD, and the other a super organized caretaker. Lastly, this is a love story that takes our couple out of their comfort zone, realizing that there’s more to a relationship than magnetism, attraction, and chemistry. I was definitely ready and willing to read this story but sad the series has now ended.
Fluke, Inc came about when the five college friends realized that the game Ollie had envisioned could become the next best thing in the gaming world. Each guy majored in an area that would be beneficial to their role in the company as well as promote their inner passions. Ollie was a dream, visualizing situations in his head that might not be possible in the real world, but made sense in his game. His head might be in the clouds, but Aiden, Grant, Cam, and especially Dax helped Ollie capitalize on his vision and make it a reality. Piper was hired to keep Fluke, and the guys organized, but especially to make sure Ollie kept his feet on the ground. Ollie being successful was in part because of Piper being there to catch him when he leaps before he looks. What began as a job “babysitting” Ollie soon became more as Piper started taking care of Ollie, became attracted to him, started falling for him and wanting more. All this time Ollie was as clueless as ever; expecting Piper to always be there to help him. When Piper gives her two week notice, Ollie knows he’s in trouble. He has no idea how he will survive without her; posting post-it notes, calling him with reminders, making sure he clicks in on his Zoom calls. Without thinking about it, he decides to work where Piper is; sticking to her like glue or rather like the marshmallows in the s’mores she loves so much. As Ollie learns to work without Piper’s guidance, he learns he is capable of many things; especially teaching “work sprints” to the teens working on Piper’s camp. The longer Ollie stays at the camp with Piper, the more he discovers hidden feelings for Piper, never expecting anyone could ever love him.
Ms. Nicholas creates her characters to be appealing, magnetic, sizzling and ready for some action. Once again she outdid herself by writing an amazing story with a charming, idealistic hero and a heroine in need of seeing the world through his eyes rather than the orderly way she expects, that should definitely not be missed. This is a tale rich with emotions, sizzling chemistry, sassy and charming characters, supporting Piper and Ollie on their journey for everlasting love and achieving all they desire. I highly recommend Gimme S’more to other readers.
