What genres do you write?
I write contemporary romance under the name Molly O’Keefe, very steamy contemporary romance under the name M. O’Keefe and women’s fiction under the name Molly Fader.
Coffee or tea lover?
Coffee!! All day every day!
Name one thing on your bucket list.
Oh Gosh! So many! – I want to walk Italy’s Cinque Terre – I want to learn how to knit. I want to actually grow a garden. I want to live in Ireland.
Do you have pets?
Right now I have a dog named Kiwi. She’s a rescue and – don’t tell my husband or kids this – she is the love of my life.
When I wake up every morning I…
make coffee, clean the dishes in the sink, let the dog out, sit by the window and start writing.
Weirdest or unique thing you own.
I actually have a Harley Quinn Action figure and she is reading a tiny little copy of my book Between The Sheets. The action figure was taken from the movie Suicide Squad. In one of the last scenes of the movie Harley is in jail and she’s drinking tea and reading my book!!!!! So that’s pretty wild! My husband got me the action figure – he said it was too cool to not own and he was right!
Do you have any hobbies or particular skills?
I love to cook and to travel. But truly if I’m not working I’m reading. Every summer I take several weeks off and just read. It fills up the well.
What do you hope readers will experience or gain when reading your stories?
I love redemption arcs. In The Bitter and Sweet of Cherry Season -there is a mother and an aunt who have both made terrible mistakes and they need to earn forgiveness from the people they’ve hurt. But they also need to forgive themselves. And I really love how Peg and Hope get to that place for themselves and each other!
What inspired you to write The Bitter and Sweet of Cherry Season?
Actually – I had a dream about the whole first scene. It was so clear and so vivid – this woman is driving into Northern Michigan at night and it’s so dark. Her phone has died. She doesn’t know exactly where she’s going. But she’s clinging to hope. We also realize her daughter is with her but her daughter is refusing to speak to her. And then it’s revealed that the mother has been beaten up.
And I woke up and it was so clear. And there were so many exciting questions and I just started working on it. I also really liked the idea of both women – Hope and Peg – finding community and friendships. There are two really beautiful romances in it too, which were fun to write. And Tink the silent little girl was so heart-breaking and somehow fun at the same time. And cherries!! Who doesn’t love a cherry orchard?
Two or three words that best describe your writing style?
Emotional, funny and thought-provoking for Molly Fader. Molly and M.O’Keefe get: Sexy and angsty!
Three generations of women come together at the family orchard to face secrets from the past and learn to believe in the power of hope and forgiveness.
In cherry season, anything is possible…
Everything Hope knows about the Orchard House is from the stories of her late mother. So when she arrives at the northern Michigan family estate late one night with a terrible secret and her ten-year-old daughter in tow, she’s not sure if she’ll be welcomed or turned away with a shotgun by the aunt she has never met.
Hope’s aunt, Peg, has lived in the Orchard House all her life, though the property has seen better days. She agrees to take Hope in if, in exchange, Hope helps with the cherry harvest—not exactly Hope’s specialty, but she’s out of options. As Hope works the orchard alongside her aunt, daughter and a kind man she finds increasingly difficult to ignore, a new life begins to blossom. But the mistakes of the past are never far behind, and soon the women will find themselves fighting harder than ever for their family roots and for each other.
