I love to read in the mornings before I get on with writing or whatever I have to do that day. I’ve found that it sets me up to have a better day if I can start it with a good book.

Weirdest or unique thing you own.

I own a clock that was made in 1912 that belonged to my great-great grandparents.

Do you have any hobbies or particular skills?

I really love to decorate cakes, though I wouldn’t say I’m very skilled at it. lol (The pic is from my daughter’s birthday several years ago.)

What do you hope readers will experience or gain when reading your stories?

Reading for me is an escape, a mini-vacation from whatever is going on in my life at any given time. I love to give my brain a break and immerse myself in this other world that is being presented in a book. I hope that I’m able to give my readers a similar escape.

What inspired you to write The Heiress Gets a Duke?

A friend and I were talking and she told me about a house tour she had taken years ago in Newport, RI. It was the Vanderbilt mansion and that’s where she learned the story about Consuelo Vanderbilt, the Gilded Age heiress who had married a Duke to elevate her family’s place in Society. The story goes that guests at the wedding could hear her crying beneath her veil because she didn’t want the marriage and was in love with someone else. It was such a great, heart-rending story that I began to research these Gilded Age heiresses who were sold off for titles. As it turns out, there were over 350 of them, and I wanted to be able to tell stories that shed some light and perspective over this part of history.

Three words that best describes your writing style.

Sexy history with character

About Harper St. George

Harper St. George was raised in the rural backwoods of Alabama and along the tranquil coast of northwest Florida. It was a setting filled with stories of the old days that instilled in her a love of history, romance, and adventure. By high school, she had discovered the historical romance novel, which combined all of those elements into one perfect package. She has been hooked ever since. She lives in the Atlanta area with her family and loves to hear from readers.

Author Spotlight & Giveaway: HARPER ST. GEORGE!

Even a fortune forged in railroads and steel can't buy entrance into the upper echelons of Victorian high society—for that you need a marriage of convenience.
American heiress August Crenshaw has aspirations. But unlike her peers, it isn't some stuffy British Lord she wants wrapped around her finger—it's Crenshaw Iron Works, the family business. When it's clear that August's outrageously progressive ways render her unsuitible for a respectable match, her parents offer up her younger sister to the highest entitled bidder instead. This simply will not do. August refuses to leave her sister to the mercy of a loveless marriage.
Evan Sterling, the Duke of Rothschild, has no intention of walking away from the marriage. He's recently inherited the title only to find his coffers empty, and with countless lives depending on him, he can't walk away from the fortune a Crenshaw heiress would bring him. But after meeting her fiery sister, he realizes Violet isn't the heiress he wants. He wants August, and he always gets what he wants.
But August won't go peacefully to her fate. She decides to show Rothschild that she's no typical London wallflower. Little does she realize that every stunt she pulls to make him call off the wedding only makes him like her even more.

Harper, your book sounds delightful with a beautiful coverit is going on my TBR list. My husband and I inherited a clock somewhat similar to the one shown in your picture. Its bigger and from Germany. It’s from my husband’s great grandfather unfortunately it keeps it’s own time. Your daughters cake is beautiful. I’ve never been good at baking but I’m good with arts and crafts.

    • Harper St. George

Thanks so much! I don’t get to bake nearly enough to be great at it, but it’s a fun creative outlet. I’d love to be able to do more arts and crafts type projects, but I frankly don’t know where to start. lol I’m sure your clock is beautiful even if it does keep its own time. I love antiques.

  2. Anne Golden

I love this cover !!!! My last name is Golden after all !!
Are you the same Harper St. George that’s writes the Viking Harlequin stories ? I have read most of those and love them !!!

    • Harper St. George

Hi Anne! I’m so glad you like the cover. Yes, I have written quite a few Viking romances for Harlequin. It makes me so happy to know you enjoyed them!

    • Harper St. George

Thank you so much. It does work, but we do need to get it tuned up because the gongs have stopped matching the hours. lol

  3. Chanpreet

How many projected books are there so far for the series? And I loved The Heiress Gets a Duke and looking forward to reading more from you, both in this series and your backlist!

    • Harper St. George

Thank you so much, Chanpreet! There are 3 books, currently. The Devil and the Heiress comes out June 29, and Book 3 will be early 2022.

  4. Tabitha

New to me! But I’ve seen this book everywhere and have severely regretted my decision to cut down on book spending. Was there anyone in your own life that you based August off of? Congrats on your release! Can’t wait until I (eventually) get my hands on a copy ❤

    • Harper St. George

Thanks, Tabitha! I hope you enjoy it. I wouldn’t say she’s based on anyone, but definitely August sort of represents everyone I know who decided to go their own way and not follow what everyone else around them was doing or wanted them to do. I wouldn’t say she’s a rebel, because that implies rebellion, but she knows her own mind and isn’t afraid to use it.

Harper this sounds like it’s going to be an absolutely fascinating series! I love the time. And I have long loved the history of the American heiresses. I can’t wait to read your books. Have you ever been to the Biltmore Estate? It’s opulent and lovely. Thank you so much for such a wonderful opportunity!

    • Harper St. George

Hi Mia and thanks for your question. Yes! I have been to the Biltmore Estate. My family and I went a couple of years ago and it was magical. We took the main tour, but I’d love to go back for some of the specialty tours. My favorite rooms were the library and Mrs. Vanderbilt’s bedroom.

  6. Rita

Harper is a new author to me. I love the sound of this book. I think this would be a fun read. August sounds like a really feisty character. Love the gold dress on the cover. I need to check out this book and author.

    • Harper St. George

Hi Rita! I was so happy to see the gold dress when I first saw the cover. August actually wears a gold dress in a pivotal scene in the book. I was glad that the art department used it.

  7. Susan Gorman
