Happy Release Day to Connie Mann! To Celebrate, lets learn some fun facts about Connie in this short Q&A. Leave a question on the blog for a chance to win DEADLY MELODY!

1. What genre(s) do you write?
I write romantic suspense, and love stories that center around families and include lots of nature and the outdoors, especially ones set in Florida.
2. Coffee or tea lover?
Oh, definitely coffee. Mom made me drink hot tea whenever I got sick as a child and to me, tea = sick. Iced tea is a different story. Love that.
3.  Name one thing on your bucket list.
I dream of going on a safari and seeing giraffes in the wild. How cool would that be?
4. Do you have pets?
We had a sweet black lab mix for 18 years. She grew up with our kids and was my writing buddy. I still miss her. Right now our schedules wouldn’t be fair to an animal, so we are currently pet-less. Sadness.
5. When I wake up every morning I… Drink a glass of water and then pour a big cup of coffee before I head to my computer. My best creative time is right after I get up—before my internal editor is awake to nag me.
6. Weirdest or unique thing you own.
About a year ago, one of the fabulous volunteers where I work gave me his grandmother’s Underwood typewriter, saying he thought a writer would appreciate it more than he does. It sits on my desk and reminds me of the awesome privilege it is to tell stories.
7. Do you have any hobbies or particular skills?
In my day job, I’m a USCG-licensed boat captain. I get to take 5th graders out on the crystal-clear Silver River and show many of them their very first alligator. It’s a great job! I also bought a paddleboard last year and am enjoying it more than I expected to.

8. What do you hope readers will experience or gain when reading your stories?
My stories are always about hope–and second chances. We all carry baggage and have hurts in our past. So do my characters. I hope readers will cheer for them and their second chance–and will find encouragement for their own hearts along the way.
9. What inspired you to write DEADLY MELODY?
Cat’s story is the 3rd in the Safe Harbor series (though they don’t have to be read in order) and she’s been a bit of a mystery person, hovering in the background. Readers kept asking what her deal was—so did I! I had a blast digging into her background and making sure she got her happy ending, too.

  Deadly Melody

Home is where the heart is. The danger, too . . .
The Martinellis were the closest thing to family Cat Johnson ever had. That’s why she ran—to protect them from her threatening past. The orphaned child of classical musicians, she’s been lying low in Nashville, and performing at the No Name Café. When Cat reluctantly agrees to attend the wedding of her beloved foster sister, the plan is simple: make a quick appearance at the Martinellis and then disappear again. Instead she’s thrust headlong into a nightmare.

After a wedding guest is murdered, Cat’s past descends with a vengeance. So does handsome and inquisitive Safe Harbor cop, Nick Stanton, who will stop at nothing to uncover the town’s secrets. That means exposing Cat’s as well. The more intimate Nick’s feelings for Cat become, the more driven he is to find out what she’s hiding.

As things in Safe Harbor take a terrifying turn, Cat realizes that the man she’s afraid to trust might be the only one she can turn to.

  1. We had a wonderful black lab mix who we lost when she was 17. They are such sweet and loving dogs. Of the dozen or so dogs we have had over the years, her loss was the hardest. We would get another lab now, but still have two dogs, one with a broken back that needs a lot of care. . Our 17 year old terrier mix died a week ago. She was a sweetie. I still keep expecting her to some over and lie down near me. There is a good possibility I will meed a service dog in a few years. I will be looking for a lab or lab mix fo fill that position if possible. I love a good suspenseful read and DEADLY MELODY sounds like one.

    • Great to hear from you. I work for our local school board and take 5th graders on the Silver River. I generally pilot the boat 3 days a week, but that can vary a bit. It's great fun!

    • Reading inspired me to want to write my own stories. As a child, I would check out stacks of books from the bookmobile and I found I could escape to whole different worlds right from my living room. Eventually, I started making up my own stories and writing them down. But it was many, many years before I had the courage to submit them to a publisher.

    • Good question. I think they're such amazing creatures. They used to have some at Silver Springs years ago and I loved watching them. It would be incredible to see them out in the wild.
