“Everything I adore in a Regency—wit, steam, and heart!”―Grace Burrowes, New York Times bestselling author

“In [a] splendid Regency-set debut . . . Bennett turns a spotlight on the class distinctions and gender restrictions of 1819 England, with a formidable leading lady and a swoon-worthy hero with lower-class roots. Filled with gripping drama, strong characters, and steamy seduction, this tantalizing story is sure to win the hearts of Regency fans.”―Publishers Weekly, starred review

“This is a fast-paced and spicy debut, with likable characters and a feel-good finale that boasts a just-right blend of tenderness and groveling.”―BookPage, starred review

What genres do you write?

Historical romance, but I’m not ruling out contemporary in the future.

Coffee or tea lover?

My heart belongs to coffee.

Name one thing on your bucket list.

Taking my time to explore Great Britain.

Do you have pets?

Three cats!
Sherlock is determined to live outside, so he has a heated kitty house on the porch. Mouse is my daughter’s cat, and he lets me know every day that I’m not his person.
My baby is Phineas. He’s a Scottish Fold and a frequent star on my Instagram.

When I wake up every morning I…

Caffeinate with a full pot of coffee, then shove a hat over my bed head.

Weirdest or unique thing you own.

We turned one wall of the living room into a bookcase and reading bench, with one cubby designed especially for our flying pig lamp.

Do you have any hobbies or particular skills?

I’m a GIA certified Gemologist. My son is obsessed with the microscope, and my husband is terrified to buy me jewelry.

What do you hope readers will experience or gain when reading your stories?

The Misfits of Mayfair series was written from that part of me that always felt like an outsider. If someone reads these books and recognizes part of themselves or would want to be friends with one of the characters, then I consider that a job well done.

What inspired you to write Any Rogue Will Do?

It began with one scene that wouldn’t leave my head. Then I spent several days with passionate readers and brilliant writers at the Historical Romance Retreat. That event convinced me to stop dreaming and start working. A couple months later, with the help of a great mentor, Nicole Locke, I had a draft.

Three words that best describes your writing style.

Witty, sexy, emotional

About Bethany Bennett

Bethany grew up in a small fishing village in Alaska where required learning included life-skills like cold-water survival, and several other things that are utterly useless as a romance writer. Eventually settling in the northwest with her real-life hero and two children, she enjoys mountain views from the comfort of her sofa, wearing a tremendous amount of flannel, and drinking more coffee than her doctor deems wise.

Goodreads
Genres: Historical Romance

He ruined her reputation―now he's the only one who can save it.
For exactly one season, Lady Charlotte Wentworth played the biddable female the ton expected―and all it got her was society's mockery and derision. Now she's determined to be in charge of her own future. So when an unwanted suitor tries to manipulate her into an engagement, she has a plan. He can't claim to be her fiancé if she's engaged to someone else. Even if it means asking for help from the last man she would ever marry.
Ethan, Lord Amesbury, made a lot of mistakes, but the one he regrets the most is ruining Lady Charlotte's reputation. He's older and wiser now, but his attraction to Lottie never wavered. Going along with her charade is the least he can do to clean the slate and perhaps earn her forgiveness. And, if he's lucky, her love.

I love the dress she’s wearing on the cover! I’ve always wanted to be invited to a dance where the ladies dress in ball gowns like that. Have you ever been to such a dance? I too love having cats. One of my favorite thing during these cold winter evenings is to read a good book with a cat snuggled on my lap and a cup of hot chocolate near by.

    • We added another! A bengal mix kitten named Flower, who is determined to kill every Q-tip in the house. I don’t know what his deal is with those cotton swabs, but the vendetta appears deeply personal 🤣

This looks fabulous! I have been obsessed with historical romances recently – partly in thanks to Bridgerton. You mentioned that exploring Great Britain was on your bucket list – have you traveled anywhere else that you’d like to revisit?

    • I love how Bridgerton has sparked a renewed love for Historical Romance!
I’ve traveled, but would love to see even more of the world. When I was a teen I spent some time in Europe and West Africa. I’d love to go back and see how those areas I visited have changed.

  3. I don’t usually read books with steamy covers (or steamy insides) but I love Regency romance! This is a new author for me. Also, Phineas is adorable.

    • Phineas is the BEST 😍 I adore that floof.
If you typically avoid sexual content, this one might be more than you like. I gave my mother a list of pages to avoid if you’d like me to pass that on, though. 😉
The second book, which publishes 6/29 has fewer steamy scenes.
One thing I love about Romance as a genre, is that there are books out there for every reading taste. While mine may be too graphic for your preference, I know there are OODLES of amazing Regency set stories waiting for you to devour ❤️

I haven’t read any books by this author. But this one sounds really good, and I love the pretty cover.

    • Isn’t the cover GORGEOUS 😍 One of these days I want the chance to hug the art department at Grand Central Forever.
I hope you’ll give Lottie and Ethan a chance to win you over. Maybe you’ll win a free copy!

New to me! What made you want to write historical romance novels? This book sounds fabulous!

    • Thank you for your kind words! I hope you give the book a try 😉 Historical Romance has had a place in my heart since I stole a Regency of my mother’s in the 4th grade. The story was An Early Engagement by Barbara Metzger. It was pretty tame, so my Mom didn’t worry. I was HOOKED. And entire book of ball gowns, dancing, longing glances, and people circumventing manners… It has been a part of my reading life ever since. While I certainly may write contemporary at some point, it felt right to start with a Regency.

    • Ina

I just checked Any Rogue Will Do out from my library for my weekend reading and I can’t wait to start it!

Bethany, can you tell us a bit about your next book/WIP? Are there any particular aspects of that project that you’re enjoying writing right now (tropes, scenes, characters, etc.)?

      • Hi Ina! I hope you enjoy Rogue 🙂 Book 2 is Cal’s story, called West End Earl, and is on its way to the printers soon. In that one, I tackled ways to update the Girls in Pants trope, and had a lot of fun writing a hero who masks everything with humor. I’m drafting book 3, All Rogues Lead to London, which is Emma’s story (Cal’s sister).

  6. Deborah R.

This is a wonderful book! A true laugh out loud read with lovely characters. Bethany, I’m curious what one scene got stuck in your head that started the whole thing. Will you share?

    • Oh, I’m so glad you enjoyed it! As to the scene… It was the BALCONY scene. Yes, that one 😉 I couldn’t get the characters out of my head and had to figure out why they were there (beyond obvious reasons).

  7. Lorelei Buzzetta

Welcome, Bethany! Oh, my gosh, I love your answers. I’ve wanted to do a wall bench bookshelf too! But I turned that room into the Lit Lair and need the desk on that wall.
